Stop the Autopilot

Just for fun, try going a day using only your non-dominate hand to perform tasks; unless it involves sharp utensils :). For no particular reason, I did this for a little while today. It was awkward, clunky and took a little more thought and coordination than usual. I tired quickly and wanted to desperately switch back to the hand which would have had no problems with the same task. I realized that there are several tasks which I perform throughout the day that are automatic and require very little thought or effort on my part because I have done them so many times. As I thought about that, I wondered if I have thought patterns, mindsets, default ideas/perceptions or self-talk which fall into that autopilot process. It turns out I do. Every day I try to grow as a person, continually striving to be better than I was the day before. Unfortunately, I have found myself slacking lately in my efforts to grow. I have turned to autopilot and see that I have been in a stall for the past few months. I have fallen back to my default and started relying upon that which took no effort on my part. Today I am taking back the controls and resetting my default to reflect the person I want to be; one of intentional living with a purpose to better the lives of those around me. I want goodness, thoughtfulness, kindness, peace, love and joy to become my default.
Are you on autopilot? Do you need to reset your default? It will take intentional thought and effort, but press on until it becomes second nature; a mindset that happens automatically.
