Yes, it is true that life and death are in the power of the tongue, however, how words are delivered, not just which, equally brings life or death. I have heard words wielded with hurtful sarcasm and such a belittling tone I could literally see the recipient shrivel in shame from the otherwise relatively harmless words. How many times have you heard the words of an apology, yet were left wanting and unsatisfied from the hollow intent by which they were delivered? There can never be a sincere apology if it's not sincerely delivered. It is so crucial to be aware of the fact that sometimes it's not what you say that hurts someone, it's how you say it that wounds. Respect the ones you love enough to speak both love and lovingly to them; sarcasm and annoyance cuts deeper than you realize.
If you're looking for a new year's resolution, perhaps this might be one for you: "A fool always loses his temper, but a wise man holds it back." Choose wisdom, speak life, speak kindly.
