The Heart of Thanksgiving

With all of the planning, preparing, to-do lists and have-to-get-it-done activities, I think it is important to keep a proper perspective this time of year, focusing on the truth of Thanksgiving that has been lost in translation over the past few years. Though turkey, pie, football, and family are fun, I propose that at the heart of Thanksgiving is not thanks and gratitude for what you have or how you may count your blessings, but a realization that you are so deeply loved and cherished and because of that love for you, your needs will always be met. Wants are quite different and when given, a wonderful surprise, but knowing that you will always have what you need is something to truly be thankful for. So whether you are with a house full of people or find yourself sitting alone staring at an empty table, you can still have the greatest Thanksgiving Day ever knowing that you celebrate with the One who loves you because of who you are and not anything that you have done. As you bow your head in honor of the provision, rest in the knowledge that you are cared for and looked after, release your worries about the future and enjoy the day knowing that all is taken care of. Be blessed, know your great worth, that you belong and have a valuable purpose.
